Landscaping around apartment buildings in Prague–Modřany

Around apartment buildings in Modřany, we cleared the site and levelled the ground for new greenery. We planted trees, established lawns by seeding and turfing, and installed steel edging around terrace planting beds. Pebble strips were added alongside paved areas.

Reviewing the design

Why we recommended changing the planting beside the wall

The design specified ivy alongside Boston ivy in the planting strip beside a wall. Before planting, we asked about the wall's finish and whether the ivy would need support to climb the wall rather than spread through the bed.

We also highlighted the risk of faster-growing Boston ivy overtaking the ivy. Keeping both together would require more frequent pruning, so we recommended omitting Boston ivy from this strip.

Project stages

From site preparation to established lawns

  1. Prepare the areas

We cleared the site and carried out tree felling, then levelled areas intended for planting and grass. Soil beside the terraces was brought level with the paving edges. Steel garden edging defined the beds, while pebble strips were installed alongside hard surfaces.

  2. Plant trees and beds

We planted young trees beside the steps and paths and secured them to stakes. Narrow beds along the fences were planted and the surrounding soil covered with mulch.

  3. Establish the lawns

Some grass areas were seeded. Beside the enclosed terraces, we laid turf on levelled soil, fitting each strip to the bed edges and paving.

In the first photograph, the tree is already staked but bare soil remains around its trunk. The second shows the same planting after grass establishment. The photographs were taken from slightly different positions.

Lawn, planting bed and pebbles

The lawn extends from the terrace to the fence. Steel edging defines the planting bed and separates the mulch from the pale pebbles.
