DEPTH AND WIDTH OF WORK

How much grinding do you need?

Below ground, a stump widens into substantial buttress roots. The width of the ground area therefore matters as well as the depth.

GRINDINGTO A DEPTH OF

UP TO 45 CMBELOW GROUND

We also grind the wider underground stump base and substantial buttress roots within the agreed area. This creates more space for subsequent landscaping and earthworks.

Deep grinding including buttress roots The same illustrative stump, with a 20 cm stem and a widened base approximately 60 cm across. The wide hatched area includes the stump and buttress roots to a maximum depth of 45 cm below the original ground level. Roots outside this area remain. All dimensions are illustrative, not a universal ratio for stump proportions. GRINDINGFOR A LAWN

UP TO 15 CM DEEPBELOW GROUND

We primarily grind the central stump to 15 cm below ground level. After appropriate backfilling and levelling, the area can be prepared for a lawn and regular mowing.

Grinding the central stump for a lawn The same illustrative stump and roots. The narrow hatched area includes only the central stump, 20 cm wide and 15 cm deep. The wider buttress roots and more distant or deeper roots remain in the soil. All dimensions are illustrative, not a universal ratio for stump proportions. Nature gradually takes care of the rest.

Retained roots gradually decompose naturally in the soil.

Dimensions are illustrative. The actual extent of grinding depends on the stump, buttress roots and agreed depth.Illustrative example: a 20 cm stem and widened base approx. 60 cm across. These proportions are not universal. Up to 45 cm is the maximum possible depth, not the automatic scope of every job.

FROM AGREEMENT TO HANDOVER

How the work proceeds

01

Photographs and an agreed scope

Send the location, number of stumps, diameters at ground level and access details. We will confirm the depth, handling of residue and quotation.

02

Grinding to the agreed depth

We grind the stump progressively, choosing an appropriate width and depth for a lawn or deeper groundworks.

03

Handover and any further work

We leave the residue or remove it as quoted. Backfilling, soil and final surface treatment are agreed separately.

Will the machinery fit? Access and working conditions

We need a minimum access width of 1,450 mm. The narrowest point along the entire route matters, not just the entrance gate. Please send a photograph of the access too.

Work on slopes up to 55° is assessed individually according to the surface, obstacles and available space. Sharp stones are unsuitable. Tell us beforehand about utilities and known obstacles around the stump.

Grinding does not remove the entire root ball. Suitability for construction or planting must be assessed separately. Retained roots gradually decompose and may require additional soil later.

Questions before booking

Frequently asked questions

There is a stump in my garden. Must it be dug out completely?

Not always. Grinding breaks down a stump below ground to an agreed extent. Whether it is preferable to root-ball extraction depends on access, stump size and whether a lawn, planting or another improvement will follow.

Is grinding the same as stump extraction?

No. A grinder shreds the wood within a specified area; extraction removes the root ball and disturbs the ground more. The choice depends on the site's next use.

How should I measure a stump for a quotation?

Measure its widest point at ground level and include a photograph with a tape measure. Tell us the number of stumps and their height above ground.

Can I establish a lawn after grinding?

Yes, with appropriate preparation. We specify residue removal, backfilling, levelling and seeding separately, selecting the necessary depth and materials to suit the conditions.

How much does stump grinding cost, and what affects the price?

The basic rate starts at CZK 20 per centimetre of diameter, excluding VAT, for grinding up to 15 cm deep. Grinding a 50 cm stump alone therefore starts at CZK 1,000 excluding VAT. Travel is CZK 25/km excluding VAT, charged for the return journey from our premises; we confirm the chargeable distance in the quotation. The final price depends on stump number and condition, access and depth. Residue removal, backfilling and surface finishing are priced separately.

How wide must access be for the stump grinder?

At least 1,450 mm. Send the width of the narrowest point, a photograph of the access route and details of steps, slopes or sharp stones. We assess feasibility for each site.
